Get Started With Affiliate Marketing in 5 Simple Steps

Just so you know, I may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post, but it won’t affect the price you pay at all! I have a full affiliate disclosure that you can find here.

Not interested in making extra money each month? If you couldn’t use an extra hundred bucks ( or more ) a month, then this blog isn’t for you. Want to figure out how to make some extra money sharing products or services you love anyway? Read on!

The number one question that I’m asked about affiliate marketing is: Do I need to have a blog or a big following to get started? Nope!

Get started with affiliate marketing in five easy steps, even if you don't have a blog.

Yes, having a blog is an excellent way to increase your affiliate marketing income, but it’s not critical to getting started today. Ready to start now? Here are the first five steps that I recommend:

Get Started Now

  1. Create a business presence on social media. You can create a free Facebook Business Page, Instagram Business Account, Youtube Account, or Pinterest Business account within a few minutes! Which one is best? I recommend that you choose your favorite social media platform that you’re already comfortable using on a personal level. If you’re not sure how to create a business page, each platform has free tutorials to help you get started!
  2. Start an email list! Yes, even if you don’t have a blog or a product, creating a lead magnet (aka a reason for people to join your list) and an email list where you can reach your target audience is invaluable. Learn more from my blog post here.
  3. Make a list of your favorite products/services. What do you love and what does your current community or target audience love (if you have one)? I always recommend being an affiliate for the products and services you already use! It makes writing authentic and informed recommendations easy and genuine.
  4. If you already have a small business, blog or direct sales business, align yourself with products and services that will benefit your current customers. For example, if you sell clothing, becoming an affiliate for your favorite accessories company might make sense for you and your business. Be sure to check your current companies policies and procedures before recommending affiliate products, especially if you’re in a direct sales business.
  5. Don’t become a spammy sales person! As always, provide your target audience with valuable information, entertainment, and quality recommendations without overloading them with buy this that and the other thing.

What Programs Will Accept Me without a blog?

Five of the best programs to join as a new affiliate marketer! Yes, even if you don't have a blog of big following.

There are quite a few great affiliate programs that will accept you without a blog or a big following! Grab my free list of affiliate programs to help you get started here. Want to hear me discuss the above strategies? I did a live video on affiliate marketing here. And stay tuned, my affiliate marketing basics course will be launching very SOON!

Afraid you can’t be an ‘influencer’ or affiliate marketer because you don’t have anything of value to share? Think again! I found my favorite back massage tool through a recommendation from another friend with chronic illness. That $30 purchase has changed my life for the better! And since it didn’t cost me any extra to use her affiliate link, why wouldn’t I? It’s a win-win for both of us.

Your life may not look like the Kardashians (mine sure doesn’t), but who you really are is what makes you a relatable person to your friends and network!

Have you started with affiliate marketing? What questions do you have that I can address in future blog posts?

Mental Health & Chronic Illness: Why It’s Critical We Discuss them TOGETHER.

Just so you know, I may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post, but it won’t affect the price you pay at all! I have a full affiliate disclosure that you can find here.

I share openly about my chronic illness, Multiple Sclerosis, and my struggles with chronic pain, fatigue, and brain fog. Why? Because if my story can help one other person feel less alone, or help someone to be kinder towards a person with an invisible illness, then it was worth sharing.

While I’ve mentioned it, I don’t think that mental health, including depression and anxiety (two conditions I have), are talked about enough in today’s society. Sadly, there is still a stigma against mental health conditions.

“At the root of this dilemma is the way we view mental health in this country. Whether an illness affects your heart, your leg or your brain, it’s still an illness, and there should be no distinction.”

Michelle Obama

As we enter May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month, I want to share some statistics from Mental Health America. Does the fact that 80% of people struggling with a ‘traditional’ chronic health condition also struggle with a mental health condition surprise you?

It certainly doesn’t surprise me.

Chronic illness is isolating, exhausting, frustrating, and unpredictable. I cannot imagine living with MS and not also dealing with depression and anxiety. Actually, I had been receiving treatment for depression long before my MS diagnosis.

I’m extremely grateful that I learned some coping techniques and found a medication that works for me before my first MS flare. Plus, I’m extremely lucky that my family and friends never stigmatized mental health conditions and have always supported me.

Mental health and chronic illness; why it's critical we discuss them together.

The Struggle Is Real

According to Mental Health America, “For those dealing with a chronic health condition and the people who care for them, it can be especially important to focus on mental health. When dealing with dueling diagnoses, focusing on both the physical and mental health concerns can be daunting – but critically important in achieving overall wellness.”

Well, daunting seems like a bit of an understatement to me! I do agree that mental health is critically important in achieving overall wellness. Personally, I know that the worse I feel physically, the worse I tend to feel mentally too. Yes, I know that the opposite can be true as well.

Unfortunately, when you don’t have as much control over your daily energy or pain levels as much as a ‘normal’ person does, you have to make harder choices. Doing things that are good for your mental health, like going for a walk in the park or meeting up with friends, can be physically impossible.

What CAN We Do?

Well, although I spend a lot of time at the doctors’ office, I am not a doctor and not giving you any medical advice. However, I am confident that by sharing our own stories, struggles, and successes, we can all help each other.

No matter what you’re dealing with in life, you deserve to be happy. You are enough. I do think you can find joy in life with chronic illness and that includes mental health conditions too. I wrote a blog post sharing some of my favorite strategies here, but a few of my go-to ways to find joy are:

  • Snuggle with your favorite pet. Dixie, my rescue dog, is critical in my life and brings me so much joy!
  • Talk to someone. I have personally found that meeting with a professional therapist is helpful, and worth the time and energy.
  • Find an online support community if you can’t get out of the house. Join us on Facebook in Full of Grit and Grace if you’d like.
  • Readjust your expectations, try to think of the little feel-good moments, and celebrate the small wins in your life.
  • Try not to waste your precious energy on beating yourself up mentally. Life is hard enough without us being harder on ourselves.
  • Don’t have enough time for self-care? Download this free tool to help you reclaim your schedule.
  • Recognize that doing your best is always enough. Is breathing all you accomplished today? That is enough.
You are enough. The connection between chronic illness and mental health. Nails from Color Street and Sticker from the Soul Project.

3 Strategies for Living Well with Chronic Fatigue

Just so you know, I may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. I have a full affiliate disclosure that you can find here.

Stay Hydrated!

We all know the importance of drinking water, but drinking enough water is hard, am I right?! And apparently, iced coffee totally doesn’t count!! I enjoy adding Hydrant to my water, because the lime flavor is great, plus the benefits are awesome too. Per their site, Hydrant‘s unique ingredient blend allows you to absorb water more efficiently, think of it like a hydrant that sends water quickly and efficiently to your cells. Plus, you can save 33% on your order through 5/31/19 with this link and code HYDRANT33!

Hydrant lime drink helps keep you hydrated

Hydrant creates effective hydration products developed in-house by an Oxford Biologist. The Optimal Hydration Mix fights the fatigue that 75% of us experience from dehydration every day. Formulated to make water work better, instantly and conveniently, Optimal Hydration Mix keeps you healthy and hydrated.

#DrinkHydrant

Use Your Energy Wisely

Look, we all want successful businesses, clean houses, fab hair, and home-cooked meals, but it’s just not attainable for most people to ‘do it all’, let alone someone with a chronic illness! If you’re dealing with chronic fatigue, as I do, then you know that you never know how much energy you’ll have each day. That makes it even more important to learn to prioritize ruthlessly, which I discussed further in this blog post.

When my body tells me I need to rest, either by giving up completely or giving me the dread cognitive ‘fog’, I have to take a break. Pushing myself or ‘hustling’ harder will NOT work when you have a chronic illness. So the dishes might stay dirty. The house always needs to be cleaned. The meals aren’t gourmet. And, I use way too much dry shampoo. But, those are things that are a part of my new ‘normal‘ and I’ve come to accept them.

Minimize Stress

Minimize stress? Yeah, right. I know you’re rolling your eyes at me! And that’s ok, because life is freaking stressful. Right?! We cannot control a lot of things in this world, but we can learn to control how we react. Things that would stress me out before, like those constantly dirty dishes I mentioned above, I’ve learned to let go of. I don’t have extra energy to waste stressed out about unimportant things. Of course, I still get stressed, but therapy, meditation, and learning to give myself grace have helped a LOT. Mental health issues, like the depression, and anxiety I have, are common in today’s society. Unfortunately, they’re still sometimes stigmatized. If you need help, medication, or talk therapy, please reach out to someone you trust. There is NO shame in doing what is best for you.

What helps you minimize your fatigue??

Give Your Skincare Routine a Spring Cleaning!

Just so you know, I may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. I have a full affiliate disclosure that you can find here.

You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference and you have to decide what kind of a difference you want to make.”

Jane Goodall

While researching alternative or additional treatments for my Multiple Sclerosis, I’ve come to realize how important what I put ON my body is too! Spring cleaning isn’t really my idea of fun. But shopping for new beauty and skincare products that are better for me (and the environment)? Now that brings me joy! I created a list of some of my favorite organic, clean, or Earth-friendly self-care and beauty products. Some of them even have great deals or savings for Earth Day on 4/22!

What does ‘Clean Beauty or Skincare’ mean? It’s just a trendy phrase that describes the beauty you want, minus the ingredients you might not. My favorite products are free of ingredients like sulfates SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, and triclocarban. Aka, crap that’s been found to have negative effects on your health and your skin.

Spring clean your beauty and skincare routine to ensure you're only putting the best products ON your body too! Click to read my affordable recommendations

Moroccan Magic

Hands down, my favorite lip balm of all time! I’ve been a Moroccan Magic brand ambassador for almost a year now, and I love each one of their flavors. Now, they’re even carried in my favorite big box store, Target! Not only are they based in Boston and run by an amazing woman, but they’re also USDA organic certified and they’ve always been cruelty-free. Stay tuned, because I’ve heard they’re launching even more products soon! You can save 15% on your orders through 4/30/15 on their website with code TARGETMAGIC.

Origins Skincare

Origins is one of my favorite skincare lines. For Earth Day, you receive a Free Tote Bag + Vitazing SPF 15 Energy Boosting Moisturizer with $45 Origins purchase at Macys. I especially love their “A Perfect World SPF 40 Age Defense Moisturizer With White Tea”, it’s not greasy or heavy but has great SPF protection. Origins mission is to create ‘the highest-quality plant, earth and sea-based ingredients combined with non-toxic-to-skin alternatives and advanced science.’

Java Momma Bath Care

I’ve been a Java Momma Consultant since they opened! Amazing coffee and fantastic self-care skincare products?! YES. I’m in love with their CBD infused coffee, but since we are talking about self-care products, let’s talk about how obsessed I am with their Coffee Infused Coconut Oil for face, body, and hair. It’s a dry skin and dry hair game-changer. Apply it all over, after a warm bath with a soothing scented bath bomb! Plus, they have some adorable Earth Day themed items too (and you can get a free reusable straw set with a purchase over $5 on 4/22 only with code EARTH19).

These are some of my favorite natural skincare products from Java Momma. Click to shop!

Skin & Hair Care Masks

A great sheet mask can be a quick pick me up for your spirit and your skin! I love these hydrating and super affordable face sheet masks from Sephora. And did you know that they’re now labeling which products they carry are ‘clean beauty’? How awesome is that?!

If you dye your hair as I do, a great hair mask or two is a must have. This reviving shampoo (perfect after too many days of dry shampooing) and repairing deep conditioning mask set from Briogeo has two of my favorite hair products. They work great when used together, and keep my poor dry locks hydrated and healthy.

My favorite clean and natural skin and hair care masks that are perfect for adding to your natural beauty and self care routine. Click to read more.

Just so you know, I may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. I have a full affiliate disclosure that you can find here.

Have you tried the FabFitFun quarterly subscription box yet?! Spring 2019 is my third box, and I have yet to be disappointed! I opened the box live on my Facebook page, which you can still watch if you’d like. Now that I’ve had a chance to try the products, I wanted to write a full review for anyone who’s on the fence about getting it!

FabFitFun Spring 2019 subscription box review. Skincare, accessories, jewelry, and more!

You can become a member and for just $49.99 each season, you’ll get the box filled with 8-10 full-sized, premium products valued at over $200. This particular box that I received is valued at $300! Not only do you get your money’s worth, but you also get a fantastic box of pure joy every three months. It’s like a present to you, from you, and filled with things you will love. How awesome is that?!

Personally, I try not to spend too much money on myself. These products are all totally worth the full price, let alone the huge discount I got on them all through FabFitFun. And if you haven’t tried it before, you can save $10 on your first box with code: SPRINGLOVE. Plus, members get exclusive discounts on new products too.

Let’s see all the fun stuff!

FabFitFun Spring 2019 box review! Loving my new backpack and aviator sunglasses. Click to see more.
My new backpack and sunglasses from FabFitFun!

Of the three accessory choices, I received the Deux Lux Demi Backpack (valued at $75) in my box. It’s a classic beige and black and the perfect size for traveling this spring and summer. I’ll definitely be bringing this with me to doctor’s appointments too…and my husband won’t mind holding it!

I also got the super cute Quay Australia aviator sunglasses in black smoke ($60). How fab are these beauties?! I LOVE sunglasses, and I am very impressed with the quality of these babies.

Self Care Treats

Tula face cleanse, dr brandt eye de-puffing gel, and ouai leave in hair conditioner are three great products from this FabFitFun box.

I am a serious luxury skincare addict, but the prices can be steep. These treats alone are worth more than the price of the box! The Tula Purifying Face Cleanser feels amazing on my sensitive skin. It’s full of powerful probiotics that gently remove makeup and daily grime, but don’t dry out my skin. Talk about a fabulous self-care item!

Ouai hair products are amazing! I’ve never tried the leave-in conditioner before, but it left my hair soft and silky. It has a nice smell and enhanced heat protection, which is a nice bonus.

Dr. Brandt skincare is another line that I’ve always had great results with! The Needles No More: No More Baggage eye de-puffing gel totally lives up to its name. It visibly reduces the look of bags and it’s a pinkish shade that color corrects dark circles.

Manna Kadar Champagne Body Scrub from the FabFitFun Spring Box is fabulous!

This Manna Kadar Champagne Body Scrub is super luxurious! It’s formulated with charcoal and Dead Sea minerals to gently scrub away dead skin cells. I love the light scent and how hydrated and smooth it left my skin feeling.

The2Bandits Athens Necklace from the FabFitFun Box is stunning and elegant.

Possibly one of my favorite ‘gifts’ in this spring’s FabFitFun box is this gorgeous necklace. It’s called the Athen’s Necklace from The2Bandits and it’s even more pretty in person. It’s simple yet has the right amount of shimmer and shine. I’ll be wearing this beauty frequently!

FabFitFun is my favorite subscription box and well worth the price for $300 worth of gifts. Click to learn more.

The final product that came with my box is this handy set of Giadzy copper plated measuring spoons. My old plastic ones definitely needed an update!

Each FabFitFun box comes with an awesome little magazine that explains the products, gives tips on how to use them, and special discounts for members. It’s no wonder this has become my favorite subscription box! Get yours before they sell out this Spring! Don’t forget to use code SPRINGLOVE to save $10 on your first box here.

What’s your favorite subscription box?!

Actipatch Review: Does it Help with Pain?

Just so you know, I may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. I have a full affiliate disclosure that you can find here.

We all deal with aches and pains, but what happens when the pain won’t go away? I was in a car accident 5 years ago, and I’ve had chronic back pain and sciatica ever since. After herniated discs, back surgery, and dystonia (muscle spasms) from my Multiple Sclerosis, my back pain is chronic and often quite miserable.

Three weeks ago, I saw an advertisement for the ActiPatch and decided to give it a try. $30 with free shipping for the chance at pain relief for 720 hours, why not?!

Of course, I’ve tried everything to help relieve the pain. I go to weekly massage appointments and often see a chiropractor. Yes, I have done physical therapy, acupuncture, cortisone injections, and I make many accommodations to my life to help make my pain more manageable. And I’ve met with countless doctors. I shared a few of my tips on The Unchargeables blog as well.

Does it Really Work?!

Yes! Surprisingly, I’ve been wearing my ActiPatch for two full weeks, and it has made a great difference in my pain level. Has it solved everything? No, of course not. But has it lowered my overall pain level? YES.

Wearing the ActiPatch on my right shoulder, where my MS has caused uncontrollable muscle spasms, has helped me the most. Does the muscle still spasm? Of course. But it hurts substantially less thanks to my patch.

can you retrain your brain to unlearn chronic nerve pain?

How does it work? Magic? Their website says: When you have chronic pain—like my nerve pain—your nerves are constantly sending pain signals. There are 2 problems causing your pain: 1) “Wear and tear”,leading to bone-on-bone contact and pain/inflammation. 2) The faulty pain signaling that your nerves learn from sending pain signals for too long.

ActiPatch works on this faulty signaling: When nerves in your painful shoulder constantly send pain signals over a long period of time, the nerves “learn” to “over-react”, like developing an allergy. During regular activities, instead of communicating normally with your brain, the nerves in your spine “over-react” and falsely send pain signals to the brain—and deliver “real” pain signals much more strongly than they normally would.

ActiPatch helps your nerves “unlearn” pain

ActiPatch helps retrain your nerves—teaching them to quit sending so many abnormal pain signals. Using rapidly pulsing electromagnetic waves (so low you can’t even feel them), but high enough to provide benefits, ActiPatch “teaches” your “over-reactive” nerves to signal correctly again. And, because it’s wireless, you don’t need to attach anything, you just put it directly on your skin or over bandaging, hold it in place with adhesive or a wrap and let it work! It’s so light and small that you can’t tell that you’re wearing it under your clothes.

ActiPatch helps retrain your nerves—teaching them to send pain signals normally again.

I gave my mom an ActiPatch and it has helped her back pain as well. Of course, she forgets to wear hers, so it hasn’t helped her as much. I wear mine constantly, and it’s light enough so that I don’t even notice it when I’m sleeping etc.

While I still live in pain daily, I am glad to have found the ActiPatch. It works along with my daily stretching routine and therapies.

If you live with pain, how do you cope?

Chronically Ill? Wow, you must be SO Brave.

Just so you know, I may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. I have a full affiliate disclosure that you can find here.

Being brave isn’t the absence of fear. Being brave is having that fear but finding a way through it.

Bear Grylls

Do you think of yourself as brave? I never have. Growing up, I was always afraid of bugs, needles, heights, and oh so much more. Okay, I’m still afraid of all of those things, but I’ve gotten a lot better with needles! Let’s just say, I’ve never been the epitome of brave.

When I picture someone who’s brave, I picture a first responder. A veteran. A surgeon. A teacher (all those kids?! Whoah, that’s brave!). Someone who does difficult or terrifying things because they want to help others. Yet, since my Mulitple Sclerosis diagnosis, many people have told me how brave they think I am.

Can I get a refund on this body?! It’s defective!

Uh, me? Nope, I think you’ve got the wrong girl. Mulitple Sclerosis isn’t something I chose, and doctors don’t even know why it happens yet. I don’t want this disease, and I don’t think I deserve admiration for living my life with something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.

excuse me, can I get a refund on this body please? It's defective! Thoughts on bravery and inspiration from a Multiple Sclerosis patient.

Sharing about my treatments and my life with MS on social media is something I do to help raise awareness for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. And, I do it to help others will invisible illness to know that they’re not alone. I appreciate the never-ending support all of my friends and family give me. But, I’ll be honest, while I appreciate them telling me that I’m ‘brave’ and ‘inspiring’, I usually don’t feel like I am.

I don’t feel brave when I’m lying on the couch too fatigued or in too much pain to play with Dixie, my sweet dog. When I have to turn down doing things I enjoy with the people I love, because my body will not cooperate, I don’t feel brave. Trying to choose a medication that will possibly help me but likely will also have horrible side effects doesn’t feel very brave. I sure as hell don’t feel inspiring. But, as one of my dear friend’s often reminds me, I don’t get to choose who I inspire,

And as another friend reminded me, choosing to be vulnerable, choosing to fight my disease (and my own body, really), continuing to participate in Walk MS is actually very brave.

Brave: ready to face and endure danger or pain; showing courage.

While I may not ever be truly ready to endure the pain that Multiple Sclerosis causes me, I can recognize the times when I show courage. Using the wheelchair assistance in the airport, because I need it as much as I hate it, is brave. I wish it wasn’t brave, because I wish that people wouldn’t stare when you ‘look so good’ but actually need the assistance. #ThisisMS

I’d love it if we didn’t have to talk about how brave Selma Blair was for showing up at the Grammys with a cane because of her Multiple Sclerosis. I wish we could simply talk about how beautiful she looked. Or better yet, how talented she is! Yet, that’s not the world we live in. Disability, using assistive devices, etc., is still looked upon as ‘less than’. And showing your face in public when you’re different?! Wow, that’s brave.

Maybe one day, being different won’t be seen as so brave. We can hope, right? Truly, I hope that as a society, we can all learn to be kinder to each other. To judge less, love more, and believe each other when we say that we are struggling.

And of course, I hope that one day there’s a cure for Multiple Sclerosis so no one else will have to suffer and be brave enough to fight their own immune system.

How do you deal with being told that you’re brave or inspiring when you don’t feel like you are?

Life’s Hard, Find Joy Anyway

Just so you know, I may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. I have a full affiliate disclosure that you can find here.

“Without pain, how could we know joy?’ This is an old argument in the field of thinking about suffering and its stupidity and lack of sophistication could be plumbed for centuries but suffice it to say that the existence of broccoli does not, in any way, affect the taste of chocolate.”

John Green

Most of us believe that happiness is an event. However, I think that happiness is more of a state mind. Happiness is not based on how much you have. It’s not based on how much you achieve, or how many friends you have (although they all help). It may be based on how many dogs you have…if you’re a crazy dog mom like me!

Life is hard, whether you’re facing a chronic illness or any number of difficulties in life. While it’s impossible to be happy all the time, you can create little pieces of joy throughout your day and throughout your life.

Life is hard, especially with a chronic illness or other difficulties. Here are my strategies to help you find joy anyway.

Finding Joy

In order to be happy and find joy, there is not one thing you need to do or one thing you need to have either. And of course, if you’re struggling with mental health, as I do, I always recommend seeing a professional therapist or doctor. While I used to say that ‘life is hard, choose joy anyway’, I’ve decided that it’s not always about choosing joy, and more often it’s a matter of finding joy. Sometimes it’s easier to choose, but in my life, it’s often an all-out battle to find some damn joy. Happiness and joy aren’t just chilling out in the universe waiting there for you to pick them. More often, you have to actually work to find them. And if you have a chronic illness or pain? Then I can speak from experience, joy is a feeling you have to work really freakin’ hard to find.

Start off by writing a list of things that bring you joy, and anything you’re feeling grateful for. Think about what makes you smile, what happy looks like, how happy shows up in your life. Then, focus on those events and times when you felt joyful.

Recall those memories, feel them, remember how you felt and feel it again in th moment.

Recall & Create Joyful Memories

Recalling fond memories when you are struggling to find joy is a great way to pull yourself out of a dark place. This is why I keep a folder of happy memories, quotes, nice notes from friends and clients etc. on my phone for easy access on the go. I also keep a gratitude journal, and I keep my favorite mantras front and center too.

Smiling and laughing, according to some research, is good for your health. Apparently, endorphins are released when you smile and laugh. So that cheezy movie that always makes you laugh?! Go ahead and play it again (for me, it’s usually Elf). It will do your body and your mind a world of good.

If you focus on the positive, it will grow. Focus on making a choice every day to find something that will make you smile, you will get closer to your goals in life or business. Try to find something every day for which to be grateful, chances are that you will have that much more for which to be grateful.

Look for the slightest of things in the mundane and every day such as a message from a great friend, running water, a delicious cup of coffee, your dog jumping all over you. Anything that can make you smile, is worth thinking about, because in the end it will help you to find joy. And, a little joy goes a long way.

What brings you joy?

More importantly, I love that for every sale made, they donate food to animal shelters across the USA.

Friendship collars are a matching bracelet and collar for you and your four legged bestie.

What is a Mantra and How Can it Help Me Reach My Goals?

Just so you know, I may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. I have a full affiliate disclosure that you can find here.

I recently did a training on vision boards, and while they’re a bit ‘out there’, I do find them extremely helpful in guiding my life and my business! In case you missed it, you can watch it here and download my free vision board template here. Funnily enough, I started using Mantras far before I had a vision board, and really before I truly understood the benefit of having them! Now that I know the power of vision boards, I do recommend that you create one to help you visualize your goals before you work on creating a mantra (or three).

What is a Mantra and how it can help you reach your goals

What is a Mantra Anyway?!

Traditionally, a mantra is a word, sound, or phrase repeated to aid in your concentration while meditating. Yes, I do meditate (or at least I try), but I promise this blog is not going to try to convince you or teach you about meditation! I created my first ‘mantras’ after realizing that I needed to work on re-training my brain to find more joy, and to encourage myself to reach for my goals. At the time, I hadn’t yet been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, but I was dealing with back pain and going through some large changes in my life.

Your brain will work tirelessly to achieve the statements you give your subconscious mind. And when those statements are the affirmations and images of your goals, you are destined to achieve them!

A mantra can be very short. It can be one word such as “Breathe”. It can also be longer and contain specific information and affirmations depending on what you want to get out of the mantra. My first three mantras were ‘Choose Joy’, ‘Be the Change’ and ‘She Believed She Could So She Did’, and I still repeat them to myself frequently. Plus, I have each saying on a MantraBand Bracelet, and on signs, sticky notes, and decor throughout my house (what can I say, I’m a visual learner and I need visual reminders too!).

How Can A Mantra Help me Hit My Goals?

Whether your goals are personal or business related, mantra(s) can help to keep you focused and set your intentions. Too often we get caught up in the day to day running of our businesses (or our lives) and we simply forget what is actually important. Is your goal to focus more on your family and be present with them? Do you strive to give yourself more grace? To allow yourself to dream bigger and launch a new business? Do you believe in yourself? Are you trying to reduce your anxiety? No goal is too big or too small to be encouraged by a mantra.

Developing a mantra (or three lol!) will help you reach a goal that you have by focusing your thoughts and intentions each day. However, mantras don’t work if you don’t see them and repeat them to yourself!

Are you Struggling to Find a Goal or Mantra?

Try asking yourself a few questions about your life and business, and what you can do each day to achieve them.

  • How do you feel about your life now?
  • Do your thoughts tend to stay positive or do you find yourself putting yourself down and being negative?
  • How do you envision your life one year from now? One week from now?
  • What is something that you could do every day to make your goal happen?
  • If you were speaking to your best friend about her goal, what would you say? Try speaking to yourself as you would a dear friend!
  • If you find yourself thinking negatively, what would be a positive saying to counteract the negative ones?

A mantra is a positive affirmation that you will say every day until you start believing it and acting on it. Remember, you likely will not be able to follow your mantra every day, some days you might just not be quite as strong or up for the challenge as others, which is totally normal! One of my mantras is ‘Choose Joy’, but I certainly don’t find joy in every moment of my day. In fact, some days, I have a hard time finding much joy at all. The important thing is that I keep trying. You deserve to give yourself grace, and please do not beat yourself up for ‘straying’ from your mantra.

You are enough.

Do you have a mantra? I would love to hear what it is and how it’s helped you!
